RN17 - Work, Employment and Industrial Relations

Research Network 17 on Work, employment and industrial relations is dedicated to the study of all aspects and dimensions of work, labour and the employment relationship. We are exploring the world of work from both sides, i.e. from the employee and employer relationship and all aspects and forms of work and labour are investigated.

Typical research topics which are traditionally explored at our ESA sessions and at our mid-term conferences are: Industrial/employment relations and the welfare state; the role of employers and business organisations for the regulation of work and employment; migration and the implications for the world of work, employment and industrial relations; industrial relations and multinational enterprises and differences to small and medium size companies; industrial relations in the public sector; trends and effects of collective bargaining; old and new actors and processes in industrial relations; the impact and consequences of globalization on the world of employment and work; worker participation, industrial democracy and labour relations at the workplace level; the past, present and future of European Works Councils; new and old forms of industrial conflicts and alternative form of the representation of collective interests; labour market segregation: differences and inequalities between different groups, most notably between young adults, migrants and women.

RN17 has a tradition in cross-national themes but embraces all researchers in the diverse and field of the sociology of work and labour.
