ESA present at the #EUvsVirus Pan-European Hackathon

The ESA participated as partner in the #EUvsVirus Pan-European Hackathon, the largest event ever organised by the European Commission.

Last weekend (24-26 April) the European Sociological Association participated as partner in the #EUvsVirus Pan-European Hackathon, the largest event ever organised by the European Commission and directed by the European Innovation Council, in close collaboration with the EU member states, to connect civil society, innovators, partners and investors across Europe in order to develop innovative solutions for coronavirus-related challenges.

The ESA is proud to be among the supporting entities, having promoted the participation of engaged sociologists from all over Europe, in a unique event including the participation of over 20.900 people proposing 2.150 solutions, with 2.400 mentors and around 800 partners. There have been many ESA members participating as mentors, team coordinators and within teams, to help respond to the different challenges the hackathon addressed.

More information from the organisation about the areas, countries participating and other details, can be found on the website of the EU Commission.

The results with the winning projects will be made public on Thursday, 30 April, at 11:00 CEST during the Awards Ceremony. These projects will be the ones to be boosted as a result of the hackathon. Furthermore, civil society organisations and institutions are getting organised to promote support and continuity to all the teams and projects who contributed solutions.

Finally, we want to thank all of you who dedicated your time throughout the weekend and all of you who through different initiatives are contributing knowledges and interventions to diminish the dramatic consequences arisen from the Coronavirus pandemic across Europe.
