103 registered participants from 23 different countries enrolled in the 1st #EsaHackathon
Beyond the intensive work we also had the opportunity to get to know one another better at the virtual breaks! We had two virtual coffee breaks through our avatars.
This weekend the European Sociological Association held its 1st #esaHakcathon. The aim of this hackathon was for participants to be able to develop and propose ideas towards the organization of the 15th ESA Conference, which will be held from August 31st – September 3rd, virtually and on site in Barcelona.
The #esaHackathon started on Saturday, April 17th at 10 am. Participants were welcomed to the opening session by Teresa Sordé, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Marta Soler president of ESA and Mar Joanpere, member of the LOC. They presented this new initiative as part of ESA’s open and democratic approach, including an active stance towards the inclusion of the voices of those participating in ESA’s events, in line with the European Commission’s principles.
103 participants from 23 different countries enrolled in the hackathon and had active discussions through the discord channel.
In the afternoon we also enjoyed some beer time and a little competition playing Kahoot! about movies. It was a fun way to end a day of work!
On April 18th at 11.30 am we had the #esaHackathon closing session, with Teresa Sordé, Chair of the LOC and Ligia Ferro, Chair of the Conference. They both thanked the participants for their ideas and invited them to join the Conference. Gathering some of the comments from this weekend, they highlighted how participants so this as a positive experience to make contributions that made the Conference more meaningful to them, as well as an excellent space in which to meet new people before the conference.
Now the proposals have been submitted and we will soon publish information about the winners! Thank you all for this wonderful time and hope to see you in the 15th ESA Conference, online or in Barcelona!
